Overheard in the Hall: Hopeless…
I know it’s been awhile since I last chronicled the ongoing saga of Donald and Mary, my two Cartoon Liberals, but rest assured, they are still going strong!
Today’s winning comment, compliments of Donald: “..you know, whenever you hear the words “family values ” or “marriage” it’s code for some obnoxious right-wing agenda.” Sometimes words just fail. I never realized families and marriage were such threats to our American way of life! This reminds me of back in 2002-2003, after the Democrats decided they needed to differentiate themselves from Republicans based on their attitude toward 9-11 and the war, and decided to stop wearing American Flag lapel pins, and other such displays of patriotism. They literally tried to establish the idea that there was something partisan or wrong with wearing the American flag! If ever there was reason to question the intelligence of liberals, I think transforming the most basic American symbol into something they oppose, and making clear their hostility toward fundamental institutions like marriage and family surely must be it.
Yesterday, it was Mary who won the award. She and Donald were ranting about the Republican field of candidates, when her ire turned toward Newt Gingrich: “..and after what he did to his dying wife, the Republicans actually think he has a chance to beat Obama? How stupid!” Apparently the liberal propaganda machine didn’t get the memo that Newt’s first wife is still alive, and the urban legend about him serving her with divorce papers in the hospital is untrue, debunked by no less than Jackie Battley herself, and their daughter, who was in the room. I shouldn’t be surprised, I suppose. After all, this is the same woman who totally believed the rumor about George Bush’s daughters being adopted. You could make-up anything in the world, no matter how outrageous, and Mary will be an eager believer, so long as it casts conservatives or Republicans in a bad-light. And heaven forbid should you ever try to convince her that any of these stories are untrue. She’ll cling to her belief like a pit-bull on a mailman’s leg. Sort of like Ron Paul supporters.

We know, with not a shadow of doubt, that liberty is the best—and the most moral—choice for society. We seek to expand human liberty. To defend the individual against the state. To inspire new cooperation between conservatives, libertarians, and all those devoted to this cause, and to bring about a new renaissance of liberty.
