I do not like coming off like a crank or a crazed winger. I think of myself as pragmatic and moderate, and I believe that my positions bear that out. Yes, I sometimes use intense language when discussing the behavior and motives of the left, the Dems, and the MSM (all one thing, in a way). I believe that intensity is warranted. Still, my politics themselves are center-right, and I seek to be pragmatic, responsible, and not to buy into crazy conspiracy theories. That said, I want you to read this article by Debra Saunders. It's short enough, so please read it and then come back for the point I am making here, which is....... ...that the situation is worse than Mrs. Saunders posits. She suggests that it's not results global warming zealots seek, it's belief. But riddle me this, if you will. Kyoto would do virtually nothing to "fix" global warming (assuming such a fix were even required). It would also not make many demands of China or India or any of the other rapidly industrializing nations. What it would do is to place a tremendous economic burden on the West, and most specifically on the U.S. In fact, some analysis suggests that it would bring the economy of the U.S. to its knees. These are smart people. Ban Ki Moon did not rise to his position with a 85 IQ. The creators of Kyoto likewise. The overall scheme will not produce much in the way of results (they may have known that). Not asking China and India to cooperate would definitely not produce results (they had to know that). The one result that is guaranteed is a HUGE blow to the U.S. and other Western economies. And yet, they went ahead and created this "treaty" and continue to push it, and to offer opprobrium to those who do not comply. I have difficulty believing they're all morons who don't know any of what I---a layman in such matters---am saying now. They know, and they're doing it anyways. And now, Ban is doubling down and continuing this push to get the U.S. to take environmentally meaningless yet economically crippling steps, while asking nothing of China. In my view---a desire to avoid sounding conspiratorial notwithstanding---this can only mean one thing: Ban and the authors of Kyoto seek not mitigation of "global warming," but rather the diminution or destruction of the United States. It's either that, or they're all just complete idiots.
